inspired by an old boot shop in Amsterdam
StudioLab RD is a casual, comfortable neighborhood space in Washington, DC dedicated to the joys of connection and creativity.
Davisson wanted to recreate, recapture and share her experience of walking into that quaint old shop as a graduate student 30 years ago.
“I wandered into this old boot shop and found the owner working alone on his craft. His love for what he did was so evident,” she explains. “There is something about watching a creative practice their craft and seeing them so in love with the process and so in awe of their materials. It’s sheer joyfulness. That experience has never left me. I can still smell the leather and coffee in that shop today.”
After nearly three decades working as an award-winning biomedical scientist, and reaching the peak of academia, Davisson decided to take a leap of faith and follow her passion for art and painting.
“I am bursting with so much authentic enthusiasm for what I do now that I want everyone to be a part of it. The joy of having discovered this passion in my life after doing something (seemingly) so different for so long is exhilarating. I want others to experience it, too, and to take some of what I am feeling and experiencing home with them.”
