A UNIQUE PAINT PARTY IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
Paint like an artist — in an artist’s studio, with your friends.
Create an original work of art with a collaborative, freestyle paint party.
Booking for 2024 is underway!
Itching to put the phones down and make something?
Use your hands and splatter, mix & mark – together.
A freestyle paint party is a new way for couples, friends, and colleagues to get messy, take creative risks, and unleash their inner artist.
You and your painting partner(s) will collaborate on one large canvas, so you can make broad gestures and move around during the creative process.
All in my gallery and studio here in the heart of Georgetown in D.C.
It’s not a paint-along. And it’s not paint-by-numbers.
It’s painting an original work of art you’ll actually want to hang on the wall.
Instead of staying seated at your own canvases and painting replicas of the same image, you’ll create a truly distinct piece of artwork.
I’ll provide you with the tools, space, and guidance you need to spark your creativity.
The only rule? Anything goes.
Your freestyle paint party includes:
Two-hour private, intimate event just for you and your painting partner or small group in my gallery and studio
All the supplies you need, including a canvas, paint brushes, and other tools, plus a wide range of water-based acrylic paints, inks, markers, spray paint, and colored pencils (no cleanup required!)
An introduction from your host, artist Robin Davisson (that’s me!), to help you get started – plus gentle guidance if you get “stuck”
Light fare and refreshments from local vendors
Professional stretching of your canvas, so you can hang it on your wall (need more than one masterpiece? Professional printing is available!)
A renewed sense of curiosity, creativity, playfulness, and confidence(and a memorable bonding experience for you and your painting partners!)
Starting at $950 for groups of 2-3
Maximum 12 people
Pricing is determined by your group size, size of the painting, desired prints (if any), and any additional accommodations. Inquire about pricing and availability for your group.

“It’s been years since I’ve done anything super creative like this, so I was excited, but also nervous that I wouldn’t be any good at it.
But Robin put us at ease. She laid out a ton of colors and tools for us, gave us a little nudge - and once we made the first brushstroke, there was no stopping us. We had a blast and soon our beautiful work of art will be hanging in our family room as a reminder of our time together!”

Step into your studio
Nestled in the heart of Georgetown, StudioLab RD is a casual, comfortable space that reimagines the idea of a typical “white cube” gallery. Open to the public Wednesday through Saturday, everyone is invited to visit, chat, and watch while I work. You can see the studio in all its messy glory, and there’s usually music playing and coffee brewing.
But during off hours? It’s all yours.
Get inspired by the locale
Washington, D.C. is home to hundreds of art museums and galleries. Georgetown is a vibrant and charming neighborhood with the University, nightlife, shops, restaurants, and Waterfront Park all just steps away.
You’ll love visiting here. And you’ll leave with a one-of-a-kind souvenir!
Meet the artist & your guide
Everyone is creative. Yes, even you!
But if you’re not an artist, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by a blank canvas.
That’s why I’m here to provide you with all the tools you need – including a little nudge to start, if you need it.
Intuition plays a big role in an artist’s work. Cultivating my own intuition led me to leave behind a 25-year career in biomedical research to pursue a second-act career in art, and it’s led to colorful results. I love encouraging others to listen to their gut, too.
Every brushstroke can teach you something, and I guarantee you’ll walk away with a new perspective.
And if you “mess up”? Well, it’s just paint (and I help you fix it if you’d like!)

Everything you need to know
-
This is for everyone – all are welcome! Even and especially those who think they’re “not creative.” Spoiler: Everyone is creative, and I’ve helped coach a few tentative jacket-holders off the fence to make that first mark on the canvas. Every single “not creative” person has left with a smile on their face!
-
I’ll be there to show you how to use and play with the tools, encourage you to get started, and give you guidance if and when you need it. However, this is your experience – it’s not a class. What you make is entirely up to you.
-
Not quite. You will paint, and you can sip, but the process is much more similar to a “real” artist’s creative process in that no one is teaching you how to paint a specific image. I’ll simply be here to help and encourage you as needed, whether you want to paint a landscape or an abstract work of art.
Please also keep in mind that while you’re welcome to BYOB, StudioLab isn’t the place for a rowdy party.

Freestyle paint parties at StudioLab are ideal for small groups of no more than 10 people.

It’s a great team-building exercise for groups of up to 10 people. Inquire below with details about your group and desired accommodations, and we can talk about what’s possible.

While I’m fully in support of fostering creativity in kiddos, StudioLab RD isn’t equipped to accommodate young children. Small groups of mature kids (and their parent chaperones) may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Absolutely! This would make an excellent holiday, anniversary, birthday, or retirement present. Please note dates must be scheduled with me in advance.

-
Yes. Professional printing is available in various sizes for an additional fee.

Something you don’t mind getting messy in!

Seating is available downstairs in the gallery, where there’s plenty of art and art books to look at for inspiration. If you have something very specific in mind in terms of food and drink, we can discuss!
